  • Predictive Ratings, Part 2 (Nov 19)
There are two main Massey Ratings models:
    • Predictive, full featured model - primary model posted since the late 1990's that included offense/defense/homefield numbers.
    • Retrodictive, self-censored model - the one used by the BCS; only uses win-loss outcomes and is not intended to be predictive; currently this model does not explicitly measure homefield, so that it is absorbed into the overall rating
As mentioned below, predictive ratings for major American sports are no longer posted on this site. Only the retrodictive ratings are posted for those leagues.

  • Massey's motherboard gets fried (Sep 28)
On Saturday, my graphics card and motherboard bios went out, probably due to heat accumulation because of excessive dust. Several headaches, and $270 later, I have my computer up and running again and will resume updates later tonight.

  • Where are the predictive ratings? (Sep 14)
Predictive ratings are no longer available for major college and pro sports. This is due, among other things, to a conflict of interest with regard to my role in the BCS, and instances of unwanted association with and exploitation by the gambling industry. In addition, I have chosen to focus my energies on building partnerships with individuals and organizations that privately support my work via revenue generating client service agreements.

For historical reasons, I continue to post college football rankings in the comparison. At some future time, circumstances may change, but for now I apologize for the inconvenience, and suggest Todd Beck's site for possible alternatives. I hope you'll keep my site bookmarked anyway.

  • Partnering with SportsIQ High School Sports (Sep 1)
Beginning this season, select state high school ratings will be provided in partnership with the SportsIQ network of sites that includes GA Sports, AL Prep, and FL Prep. Our goal is to work with local associations, fans, and coaches to provide a centralized authoritative source of scores and analysis for high school athletics.
